US Powerball Is One Of The UK’s Most Popular Lotteries

If you asked any UK resident to name the top five lotteries played in the UK they would likely name two or three and then run into a mental brick wall. After all, outside of the UK Lotto, the EuroMillions and maybe the Irish Lotto, just what are the options?

Well, there are a lot more of them than you might think. Contrary to popular belief, national lotteries are not limited to players which reside within that country. And why would they be? Lotteries don’t discriminate. They want as much money in the pot as possible,

because more money means funds to disperse within the community and a bigger prize pool.

Powerball is one of the most popular lotteries in the world with mind-blowing record jackpots that nothing else in the UK can come close to. If you’re not yet convinced just keep reading and we promise that by the end of this article you will be.

What Were the Top Five Powerball Jackpots?

There is a minimum jackpot of $40 million on the Powerball, which means the grand prize will always be higher than this. When you combine this with the fact that the lotto odds are quite high (we will get to those shortly) you get a lottery that regularly rolls-overs, generating larger prize pools each time it does.

This happened towards the end of 2015. The jackpot was $40 million on the 7th of November and for the next 19 draws it increased, adding $10 million per draw for the first few weeks and then getting higher and higher.

As news spread it hit $334 million for the first draw of 2016 and when that still wasn’t won it climbed to $500 million, then $949.80 million and then a huge $1.58 billion! At that point it was finally claimed by three ticket holders—one of which waited a whole 6 months before coming forward—who broke the record for the biggest jackpot win ever.

The top five record jackpots on the Powerball are: $1.58 Billion — Jan 13, 2016: This currently stands as the biggest jackpot payout ever. The cash lump sum amount was $980 million, which meant that each ticket holder walked away with $327.8 million. $758.7 Million — August 23, 2017: This currently holds the record for the highest jackpot paid out to a single ticket holder, a player from Massachusetts who walked away with a cash lump sum of $480 million. $590.5 Million — May 18, 2013: This huge win went to a player from Florida who won a cash lump sum of $370 million all to themselves. $587.5 Million — November 28, 2012: This jackpot was won by two ticket holders, one from Arizona, one from Missouri. They won a cash sum of around $192 million each. $558.7 Million — January 6, 2018: A single ticket holder from New Hampshire won this huge jackpot and picked up a cash lump sum of $352 million. How Much Does it Cost to Bet on the Powerball?

If you bet through MultiLotto then you can bet on the Powerball for just £3.50 per line. You can also try your hand at the Powerball Boost, which costs a little more at £6 a line, but also offers a considerably larger prize pool.

Betting on the Powerball by opting for our subscription offers is a way of not missing another draw. When you choose how many draws you want to bet on, simply select the “1 month” or “12 month” option. You will need to agree to a recurring subscription and pay with a credit card, but this typically means that you can get a few draws for free (especially in the case of our 12 month subscription) and you don’t need to worry about forgetting to place your bet.

What are the Odds of Winning the Powerball?

The Powerball currently has some of the highest odds of any lottery. To scoop the grand prize you need to overcome odds of 1 in 292 million, which is considerably higher than the UK Lotto and also higher than the EuroMillions and the Eurojackpot. That’s the bad news, but there is plenty of good news. Firstly, as discussed already, higher odds means more rollovers which in turn means bigger jackpots. What’s more, while these odds are high, you still have a better chance of winning the Powerball than the Mega Millions and a much better chance than the SuperEnalotto.

The odds for some smaller prizes are also much more appealing and can still give you a sizeable share of the spoils if your numbers come in. Just take a look at these odds to see what we mean:

Jackpot = 1 in 292 million (All 6 numbers) Second Prize = 1 in 11.6 million (5 Main Numbers) Third Prize = 1 in 913,000 (4 Main Numbers + Powerball) Fourth Prize = 1 in 36,000 (4 Main Numbers) Fifth Prize = 1 in 14,000 (3 Main Numbers + Powerball) Sixth Prize = 1 in 579 (3 Main Numbers) Seventh Prize = 1 in 701 (2 Main Numbers + Powerball) Eighth Prize - 1 in 91 (1 Main Number + Powerball) Lowest Prize = 1 in 38 (Powerball)

In the past your odds of winning the Powerball jackpot were a little better than they are now. As recently as 2014/2015 the grand prize returned odds of 1 in 175 million, but your odds of scooping one of the other prizes were smaller, as were your overall odds of having a winning ticket (1 in 31.85 compared to 24.87).
